The definition of “hosting” doesn't describe a single service, but a number of services which offer different functions to a domain address. Having a site and emails, for example, are two independent services although in the general case they come together, so most of the people see them as one single service. In reality, every single domain has a number of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that defines where the site for the domain is loaded from, while the second one is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that deals with the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record can be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record would be mx1.domain.com. Each time you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first forwarded to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the email will be directed to the correct server. The reasoning behind using separate records is that the two services use different web protocols and you can have your site hosted by one service provider and the e-mail messages by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Web Hosting

If you have a web hosting through us, you are going to be able to see, set up and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. Provided that a given domain name has our Name Servers, you are going to be able to to modify specific records through our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to any other company if you would like to use only one of our services. Our sophisticated tool will even permit you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted someplace else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain at all. If you want to use the email services of another company and they want you to set up more than 2 MX records, you can easily do this with simply a few clicks in the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. Also you can set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, provided with our semi-dedicated servers, will permit you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if required, to update any of them or set up new ones. Handling these records is quite easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes a few more clicks and if you experience any problems, you can check out our video tutorials on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is user-friendly enough to be used by individuals with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to offer you complete control over all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you are switching your emails to a different company and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
